IND vs ENG: Shoaib Akhtar Says India Shouldn't be 'Scared' and Prepare ‘Fair Pitch’ for 4th Test

A lot has been said and written about the nature of the pitches prepared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the home Test series against England. Ever since the 3rd Test between the two sides ended within two days, fans and cricket experts alike have been voicing their opinion on the raging issue. The pitch at Motera which even gave the England captain Joe Root a five-wicket haul in the first innings became a huge uproar on social media and remains one of the biggest reference points for the critics.

Among those who expressed their views on the condition of the pitch was former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar. The veteran has accused India of not preparing a ‘fair pitch’ against England and therefore, taking undue advantage of their home conditions.Akhtar, now a cricket expert and commentator who never shies away from speaking his mind, shared his views on his YouTube channel. He suggested that the hosts were ‘scared’ and that resulted in making a rather ‘unfair pitch’ against the visitors in the pink-ball Test.

In his video, Akhtar questionedif “Tests matches are played on such wickets?” and made references about its ‘unreasonable turn’, and the match ending ‘in two days is not good for Test cricket’. In his opinion, “if Team India had scored 400 runs and England were all out for 200, then one could say the visitors played poorly and lost. But in reality even the hosts got out for 145.”

The pace legend further pointed out the fact that if India can beat Australia in their own backyard, there’s no need for them to be ‘scared’ and prepare pitches like the one they did in Ahmedabad for the day-night Test. Akhtar’s claim among other cricket experts stands true as in the 3rd Test of the series, 28 of the 30 wickets fell to spin bowling. If Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin scalped most number of wickets for India, Jack Leach and Joe Root ran riot with their spin for England.

Akhtar praising India said thatthey are a bigger, better team and they should play fair. As for the fourth and the final Test of the series, Akhtar hopes that India does not take home advantage to the extent they did in the previous one.
