New Zealand could be grappling with shortage of senior players when they take on England in June. They are scheduled to play a two-match Test series that will begin on June 10. Reason: IPL 2021.

Cricketers like Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Kyle Jamieson are all likely to miss at least the opening Test match that begins on June 2 as these three will be busy playing IPL which culminates on May 30. With Covid-19 quarantine bound to take place, these top international stars are in doubt for the first Test starting June 2.

The Kiwis will take on England in the first Test on June 2 while the second Test begins on June 10. That will be followed by the all-important World Test Championship final on June 18 in Southampton.

But this is not only New Zealand’s problem, England will also have a number of players playing IPL. There is a doubt on the availability of these: Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow, while other rotation options Chris Woakes, Sam Curran and Moeen Ali.

New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson Out of Bangladesh Series with Elbow Injury

Earlier New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will miss the one-day series against Bangladesh with an elbow problem, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said on Tuesday. Williamson, who led the ‘Black Caps’ to a 3-2 T20 series win over Australia on Sunday, has a small tear in his left elbow tendon and had been “experiencing irritation” in the latter half of the summer, NZC said in a statement.

“Kane has been managing the elbow injury to varying degrees this summer and unfortunately it hasn’t improved,” NZC Medical Manager Dayle Shackel said.“He obviously has a high volume of training and playing across the three formats, which has inhibited his ability to recover.“We believe he now needs a period of rest and rehabilitation to get the injury right.
