India vs England, 1st T20I: Michael Vaughan, Wasim Jaffer Indulge in Hilarious Social Media Banter

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan in his recent social media post has said that Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) are a better T20 side than the national team of India. As England outplayed India in the first T20I in Ahmedabad, Vaughan and former India batsman Wasim Jaffer started a social media banter of their own.

Taking to Twitter, on Friday, Vaughan wrote, “The @mipaltan are a better T20 team than @BCCI!!!”Jaffer, who is known for his witty replies, reacted to Vaughan’s comment quipping, “Not all teams are lucky enough to play four overseas players Michael.” His tweet is in reference to the IPL rule that permits teams to have just four foreign players in their playing XI. India failed to land a counter-punch to the visitors on the field, but Jaffer did his best to give it back with his tongue-in-cheek reply to Vaughan’s dig in their hilarious social media conversation.

The banter did not stop there. As Jaffer pointed out the IPL rule, he took an oblique jibe towards the visitorteam which includes players like Jason Roy (South Africa born), Ben Stokes (New Zealand born) andJofra Archer (Barbados born).

Vaughan tweeted back, saying, “Have you still not recovered from me getting you out at Lords !??” To the unversed, during India vs England first Test at Lord’s in 2002, Vaughan had got Jaffer out for 53 in the second innings.

Vaughan has been frequently voicing opinions in the ongoing England tour of India and has been calling a spade a spade in his social media posts. He earlier criticised the wicket used for the third Test and called India’s win in the match a “shallow victory.” He also made an observation for the pitch used in the first T20I.

In the first T20I against England in Narendra Modi Stadium, India were restricted to 124 for 7. Their next tie is scheduled on March 14.
