Virat Kohli Dismissed for Duck, Uttarakhand Police Uses Opportunity to Educate Riders
It was for the first time in his career, that India skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck in two successive innings. During the first T20I against England, he succumbed to Adil Rashid and ended up giving a simple catch to mid-off. While it was a massive heartbreak for Kohli and the fans, Uttarakhand Police took out time and gave a sound advice to all riders against rash driving.
The Uttarakhand Police tweeted picture of Kohli walking off the pitch, with his helmet still on with a message saying, “Just wearing a helmet is not enough. It’s imperative to drive with total concentration, or you can also get out on zero like Kohli.”
Meanwhile, An all-round England thumped India by eight wickets in the opening T20I of the five-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. In a perfect day’s play for the visitors, they restricted India to 124 for 7 upon winning the toss and then smashed the chase in just 15.3 overs. Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 23 from his 4 overs while Jason Roy top scored for England with 49.
India’s batsmen struggled to score freely before Shreyas Iyer showed the way with a dogged 67-run knock that gave India a decent total.
The home batsmen never got the momentum going in the series-opener as England’s pace-heavy attack, including Mark Wood, used the extra bounce effectively to trouble them.
Most of the Indian batsmen went for flashy shots when placement would have served them well. The track had varied pace and required patience from batsmen.
Iyer though gauged the nature of the pitch quickly and adjusted his game accordingly, playing a sensible innings that helped them cross the 100-run mark. Laced with eight boundaries and a six, and coming off 48 balls, it is Iyer’s best T20 knock. He fell in the last over.
England surprised India by opening the attack with leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who was not only economical but also dismissed Virat Kohli (0) after KL Rahul (1) dragged one back onto his stumps from Jofra Archer (3/23).
